AI Power Tools for Sparx EA is now free: what changes and what doesn’t

Moving from manual modeling to AI-Augmented Architecture means the architect decides what should be done and an AI does the mechanics in Sparx EA. AI Power Tools for Sparx EA is one of the ways an AI gets that access, and since October 2, 2026 it is free for every Sparx user. There is no license key, no activation and no purchase. This note covers what that changes for architects and their leaders, and what it leaves as it was.

What changes

The cost of the tool. There is nothing to buy and nothing to renew, so trying it on a copy of your repository no longer needs a budget request. There is no license check in the server and nothing to expire.

Who publishes it. NovoCircle publishes AI Power Tools for Sparx EA. The downloads, install guide and reference documentation are on novocircle.com. Sparx Services is a NovoCircle practice, independent of Sparx Systems Pty Ltd. Our AI Power Tools page concentrates on what the tools let an architect do and the human skills that work depends on.

Two parts, both free. For Claude, the Claude Desktop extension is the MCP server and serves Claude Desktop chat and the Code tab of the Claude desktop app. The ai-power-tools plugin from the novocircle marketplace carries the skills, the written procedures the AI follows. Claude needs both. GitHub Copilot in VS Code gets the same server through a VS Code extension, and VS Code loads the same skills.

What does not change

What it lets an architect do. It gives an AI full read and write access to a live repository, so the architect can have it build diagrams, complete mappings, check the model against rules and build a reporting database. It runs on the architect’s Windows 10 or 11 machine with Enterprise Architect on the same machine, and it acts under that architect’s EA login, with no central audit layer of its own.

The cost of the AI. The tooling is free. The model behind it is paid through your organization’s Claude plan or API account, or through your GitHub Copilot plan. Sparx EA remains licensed by Sparx Systems, and Kernaro, Prolaborate and Microsoft 365 Copilot remain licensed by their vendors.

Your organization’s say. Someone still has to permit Claude or GitHub Copilot. Where plugin marketplaces are blocked by policy, the plugin arrives through your own provisioning instead.

The need for judgment. A free tool that can change a governed repository puts more weight on the person directing it. The AI is only as good as the person prompting it. We wrote about why a skills library needs an architect, using the governance gate as the example.

A free tool that can change a governed repository puts more weight on the person directing it.

Before you roll it out

Because it can write to a governed repository, a few ordinary precautions apply.

  • Find the machine. The server runs in the same Windows environment as EA. On a Mac, that means a Windows virtual machine with EA in it.
  • Check the policy. Confirm that your organization permits Claude or GitHub Copilot before anyone installs anything.
  • Start with questions. Ask it to read and explain before you ask it to change anything, and try changes on a copy of the repository first.
  • Name the reviewer. Decide in advance who checks what it produced. Output that nobody reviews is output nobody owns.

Where Sparx Services helps

We sell services that help architects and their teams get the work done. We can teach your architects to work this way on your own repository, through Foundations courses for Claude, GitHub Copilot, Kernaro Assist, Kernaro AI Hub and Microsoft 365 Copilot, and mentor them until the new way of working sticks. Or we can do the modeling work for you and hand the model over. Pricing is a conversation, never a number on a page. Installing a tool is the easy part. Knowing what to model, what good looks like in your repository and when a confident answer needs checking does not come in a download.

Getting it

Install and update guides for the Claude Desktop extension, the plugin and the VS Code extension are in the NovoCircle documentation. If you are unsure which AI suits your architects, compare the AI options for Sparx EA.
